Meet Fish Surf School in Matosinhos for a 90-minute beginner lesson at Praia de Matosinhos. After a beach warm-up and safety briefing, you’ll practice with a board, wetsuit, and leash. Groups are limited to eight, with instructors such as Ricardo and Diogo helping each surfer in the water.

Meet at Matosinhos’ Anemone Roundabout for a 90-minute surf lesson with SurfingLife Club. In a group of up to eight, you’ll learn safety, paddling, and standing on the board. Instructors speak five languages, and João is one coach praised for patient, useful feedback.

Meet at Praça de Carlos Alberto for a two-hour surf lesson at Matosinhos. João, Álvaro, and the Linha de Onda team provide boards, wetsuits, safety coaching, and close help for beginners and intermediate surfers. Transport, secure storage, and a possible beach change are included.

Meet Porto Surf School at 9:30 am in central Porto, ride by shuttle to a suitable beach, and spend three hours learning with a certified instructor. At Fish Surf School, you get a private 90-minute lesson at Matosinhos Beach, suited to first-timers and newer surfers. Your instructor covers warm-up, standing, paddling, and beach safety before you head into the water. The lesson is in English and costs $66.08 per person.

Meet at Edifício Transparente in Porto for a two-hour beginner surf lesson. You’ll get a wetsuit and board, practice for 15 minutes on the sand, then work with an instructor in the ocean. Groups are limited to eight per coach, with changing space, secure storage, and an outdoor shower.

Meet Armando at Calçada de Vandoma in central Porto for a roughly three-hour surf lesson. He chooses a suitable northern beach, supplies the board, wetsuit, and water, teaches beginners in English, and returns you to the same meeting point.

You’ll collect a comfortable bike, follow a map along Porto’s Douro waterfront, beaches, parks, and the Foz breakwater, then trade your bike for a board and wetsuit. An instructor leads the surf session, with a sandwich or salad, lemonade or beer included in option 2.
“Heerlijke activiteit om met een groep te gaan doen. Zelfstandig door Porto fietsen (centrum is wel wat hoogte verschil maar langs de kust is het prima te doen). Het surf gedeelte was top. Uitleg duidelijk en na 1,5 uur was bij de meeste de energie wel op. Het eetgedeelte bij soundmix was prima, leuk om op een plek te komen waar de locals zitten en niet de gemiddelde toerist. Eten en drinken was van prima kwalitiet.”
