Meet Fish Surf School in Matosinhos for a 90-minute beginner lesson at Praia de Matosinhos. After a beach warm-up and safety briefing, you’ll practice with a board, wetsuit, and leash. Groups are limited to eight, with instructors such as Ricardo and Diogo helping each surfer in the water.

Meet at Matosinhos’ Anemone Roundabout for a 90-minute surf lesson with SurfingLife Club. In a group of up to eight, you’ll learn safety, paddling, and standing on the board. Instructors speak five languages, and João is one coach praised for patient, useful feedback.

Meet at Casa da Música metro station for a 20-minute ride to Praia de Azurara. Sergio and the Ocean Origin team teach safety, paddling, and board skills during a 2.5-hour session. Wetsuit, board, insurance, and return transport are included.

You’ll collect a comfortable bike, follow a map along Porto’s Douro waterfront, beaches, parks, and the Foz breakwater, then trade your bike for a board and wetsuit. An instructor leads the surf session, with a sandwich or salad, lemonade or beer included in option 2.
“Heerlijke activiteit om met een groep te gaan doen. Zelfstandig door Porto fietsen (centrum is wel wat hoogte verschil maar langs de kust is het prima te doen). Het surf gedeelte was top. Uitleg duidelijk en na 1,5 uur was bij de meeste de energie wel op. Het eetgedeelte bij soundmix was prima, leuk om op een plek te komen waar de locals zitten en niet de gemiddelde toerist. Eten en drinken was van prima kwalitiet.”

“The surf lesson was worth repeating as far as I'm concerned! The surf school is located in a street right behind the beach. This makes the location easily accessible. The lesson itself was fantastic. Ivan was a nice and enthusiastic teacher who fits in well. Despite my own physical discomfort, I experienced the feeling on the board. Your English-, Spanish-, or Portuguese-speaking instructor covers safety and technique, helps you in the water, and provides boards, wetsuits, insurance, and licenses.
